SCY'S MISSION
The SCY mission is simple. We strive to create an environment where we can mentor students to LIVE BIG and LOVE BETTER. Whether through their home life, school life, friend life, or extracurricular life, we want to bring together what it means to be a whole human to the conversation. We encourage students to live authentically and to truly embrace who God created them to be.
OUR CORE VALUES
RESPECT. Above all, we encourage students to respect one another. No matter what belief system they adhere to or come from, we welcome ideas and we seek to develop a safe place where students can share those ideas.
HONESTY. We believe the only way to combat some of the youth issues our community faces is if we are open and honest about the successes and struggles we face each day.
LIVING LIFE TOGETHER. While recognizing that our leaders aren’t perfect, we encourage them to live alongside the students as much as possible. We believe that people of all ages have a longing for authentic community.
JESUS CENTRIC. We believe the best way is the way of Jesus. At SCY, you will discover the stories and teachings of Jesus being taught in a fresh and relevant way, in language that students of all backgrounds can understand.
FUN. We’re all about having fun, making incredible memories and experiencing life-changing adventures together.
EXCELLENCE. We strive for excellence in our mentoring, our programming and everything that we do.
HISTORY
Inspiring youth to LIVE BIG and LOVE BETTER – SCY (Summit County Youth) is a local non-profit organization based in Breckenridge, Colorado, serving local students and families. The SCY mission is to provide a place where students can form deep friendships with their peers and adult volunteers while exploring spiritual ideas in an environment of acceptance. SCY has existed in one form or another since 1982.
SCY has three separate programs for elementary students (K-5th grade), middle school students (6-8th grade) and high school students (9-12th grade). Each program meets weekly for games and discussions with additional weekly and monthly social activities for the older students.
Every year SCY sees students grow and connect with each other, with adult volunteers and to the bigger story of God in which we all have a part. SCY invites students to ask questions and discover what it means to be fully human, and through SCY, students are encouraged to actively share goodness both within and outside the local community.
Get Involved
SCY is a non-profit organization that relies on a community of volunteers. There’s nothing quite as exciting as walking alongside of another human being as they’re trying to figure out the world around them.
